Program News 2009
Food, Friends and Fun
Recently the 2009 Mentor Recognition Dinner was held at Good Shepherd's 17th Street residence to honor the many ways in which mentors have a positive impact on the lives of young people in our residential and foster boarding home programs. The event had a warm, family-like atmosphere with a menu planned by the young people. Residents prepared lasagna for the guests, and thank you cards for the mentors adorned the tables.
Since 2000, young people in our residential and foster boarding home programs have had the opportunity to be paired with a caring adult through our mentoring program. Volunteer mentors provide our youth with ongoing support as well as exposure to different types of workplaces and new cultural experiences. Many mentors also continue the relationships after their mentee has left our care, acting as a lifelong parental figure for a young person who may not have anyone else to fulfill this role.
