Operated in partnership with New York City Department of Education (DOE), our Young Adult Borough Centers (YABCs) are designed for older adolescents who have not graduated from high school and have challenges like caring for a child, and work schedules, which can hinder students from graduating. YABCs give young people the flexibility to take intensive afternoon and evening classes and focus only on the courses they need to graduate.
In conjunction with the DOE’s academic curriculum, Good Shepherd Services provides a wide range of services like counseling, crisis intervention, resource referrals, academic tutoring, college preparation, career exploration, and job development and placement. All of our YABCS offer the Learning to Work initiative, which provides career and employment experience and skills building, primarily through paid internships.
To be eligible for the program students must be between the ages of 17½ and 21, have earned at least 17 credits, and be in the fifth year (or more) of high school.
