Our Programs
Community Centers | East New York
Our expanding network of programs in East New York, Brooklyn illustrate our long-standing commitment to providing integrated educational, family, and community services and supports that enhance opportunities for children, youth, and families living in under-resourced NYC neighborhoods.
Designed with deep and sustained input from resident and stakeholders of East New York, the Prince Joshua Avitto Community Center (PJACC) is a state-of-the-art building with the goal of providing children, youth, and families with a safe and welcoming space where they can access robust, dynamic programming that is rich in developmental opportunities. The Center will organically become a hub for the community where residents feel a strong sense of ownership of, and are invested in, ensuring services offered are high quality and directly target the needs and interests of everyone.
In addition to Good Shepherd Services, the community-based organization Man Up! Inc. will run programming in the Center, including basketball clinics, after-school programs, job training, music and arts programs, tutoring, and life skills training. Formed over a decade ago, Man Up! Inc. provides youth living in distressed communities with job skills and training programs as well as other social services.
