Men in Progress/Women on the Move is a college readiness program at Boys and Girls High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The four-year program prepares high school students for success in high school and college through academic support, mentoring, college readiness activities, and internships.
The program is staffed by Success Coaches who work with students throughout the school day, as well as in an after-school program. The overarching goal of the program is to help prepare and guide participants to a successful college experience.
These programs are built upon the themes of brotherhood and sisterhood respectively; Men in Progress students re-envision what it means to be a male of color in today’s society, and Women on the Move students explore what it means to be a woman of color, including discussions of body image and positive female role models.
An essential piece of the program is a small group model that allows for community and group identity building. Through one-on-one and group activities, trips, and thought-provoking conversations, each cohort will build a strong, positive, and inclusive program culture.
